April 9, 2004 Loyola community prepares for spring 2004 commencementAll faculty and administrative staff are invited and encouraged to participate in spring 2004 commencement activities on campus. Baccalaureate MassThe university-wide Baccalaureate Mass begins at 7 p.m., on Thursday, May 13, in the Marquette Horseshoe. Participating faculty and staff, dressed in academic attire, should assemble at Marquette 306, 30 minutes prior to the Mass in order to line up for the processional. Representatives from University Ministry will lead the procession, which will follow the candidates for graduation. Commencement CeremoniesThe School of Law Commencement Ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., on Friday, May 14, in the Marquette Horseshoe. If you will be participating in the School of Law ceremony, please meet in Marquette 306 no later than 6 p.m. Here you will robe in academic attire and assemble in the proper order for the ceremonial procession. Marcel Garsaud, A'54, L'59, former law dean and current professor, will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree and give the commencement address. The College of Arts and Sciences Commencement Ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 15, in the Marquette Horseshoe. The Hon. John Breaux, U.S. Senator (D-La.), will receive an honorary degree and give commencement remarks. Internationally renowned sculptor Lin Emery also will receive an honorary degree. If you are participating in the College of Arts and Sciences Commencement Ceremony, please meet in Marquette 306 no later than 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. Here you will robe in academic attire and assemble in the proper order for the ceremonial procession. Georgia Gresham, drama and speech chair, and Joseph Harris, associate professor of drama and speech, will be official ceremony marshals and will be on hand to assist in directing the faculty/staff assembly. Vicki McNeil, Ed.D., associate vice president of student affairs, will assist with the stage party. The College of Music, College of Business Administration, and City College Commencement Ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., on Saturday, May 15, in the Marquette Horseshoe. Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu, L'85, will deliver the commencement remarks. Metropolitan Opera star Charles Anthony, M'52, will receive an honorary degree. If you are participating in the College of Music, College of Business Administration, and City College Commencement Ceremony, please meet in Marquette 306 no later than 6 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Jerry Dauterive, Ph.D., associate dean of the College of Business Administration, and Bill Barnett, Ph.D., associate professor of economics, will be official ceremony marshals and assist in directing the faculty/staff assembly. Nan Davis, director of recreational sports, will assist with the stage party. The rain site for the commencement ceremonies is the Recreational Sports Complex. ReceptionsThe Loyola Law Alumni Association will host a reception in the Palm Court for law graduates and their families immediately following the School of Law Commencement Ceremony. Additional notesIf you have not done so already, please notify the Office of Public Affairs of your ability to participate by returning the reply card before Tuesday, April 20. The university is expecting large crowds on Saturday. Faculty and staff attending Saturday's commencement ceremonies are urged to park on the Broadway campus.
