Eta Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated doing great things

The Eta Theta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, has been serving mankind and the Loyola community for more than 30 years, and the chapter is still thriving and keeping the S.P.I.R.I.T. alive. Recently, the ladies completed their Founder's Week in which they hosted a wide array of events to nourish the mind, body, and soul of the Loyola and Greater New Orleans community.

The week began with an entertaining Open Mic Night, held in the Loyola Underground, and showcased the numerous talents of both Loyola staff and students. The next day featured AKAerobics. This workout session was full to capacity and left everyone pumped and energized. The chapter also conducted a forum on racial misconceptions, which included Loyola alumni, professors, and community activists. In an effort to nourish the soul, the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha lead a praise and worship service for the entire Loyola family. To conclude the week, the ladies held their own sisterhood retreat and sisterhood worship held at St. Maria Garretti.

Activities and service opportunities did not end or begin with Founder's Week. The ladies tutor fifth grade boys at Crocker Elementary in preparation for the statewide LEAP test. Also, Eta Theta recently held a candy-gram fund-raiser in which all proceeds went to benefit the American Heart Association.

The Eta Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha strives to empower their peers, and in doing so they conducted AKAdemics. This night was dedicated to helping all undergraduate students prepare for the often-stressful mid-term period. Tutoring, study sessions, and hot Krispy Kreme donuts were available all night long.
In light of the quickly approaching presidential elections, the chapter conducted a voter registration drive at Lakeside Mall to register individuals in the community, and impart the importance of voting.

The 12-member chapter is small in number, but continues to do big things for Loyola and the surrounding community.
