School of Law construction plans

At the March 5 Board of Trustee meeting, the trustees approved the construction of an addition to the law school. The construction project will involve razing the Twomey Center located at 502 Pine and building a four-story, 16,000 square foot addition that will connect to the current law school. Plans are in the preliminary stages at this point and construction is estimated to cost approximately $5 million.

"The law school expansion project is necessitated by criteria set forth by the American Bar Association, the law school's accrediting body that stipulates the space requirements for law schools based on the number of enrolled students. The expansion will accommodate the existing student body of 850 and allow for the law school to maintain its accreditation. There are no plans for increasing law enrollments. The expansion project will also include space for off street parking," explains Dean Brian Brumberger.

More details about this project will be included in future issues of Loyola today.
