Faculty/Staff Footnotes

Lexa W. Lee was hired as an administrative assistant in the Counseling & Career Center.

Kathryn Venturatos Lorio, Leon Sarpy Professor of Law, was a panelist at the recent symposium, "Marriage Laws: The Effects of Recent Judicial Intervention Regarding Liberty and Marital Legislation," sponsored by the Tulane Federalist Society and the LSU Federalist Society. Her subject was "Analyzing Recent Case Law: Lawrence v. Texas and Goodridge v. Massachusetts."

Michelle M. Medus joined the Office of Financial Affairs as a accounts payable specialist.

Bill Quigley, Janet Mary Riley Distinguished Professor of Law, published "The Necessity Defense in Civil Disobedience Cases: Bring in the Jury," in the New England Law Review; "Just Compensation," in the Encyclopedia of Bioethics, 3rd edition; and "Dear Justice Scalia: An Open Letter on Catholic Social Teaching About the Death Penalty from a Catholic Law Professor to a Catholic Supreme Court Justice," in the Blueprint for Social Justice. Quigley spoke on the School of the Americas at DePaul Law School in Chicago and on WBAI Pacifica. Also, he is the chair-elect of the Poverty Law Section of the American Association of Law Schools, and was also elected as a member of the Board of Governors of the Society of American Law Teachers.

Quigley is also serving as pro bono counsel for several federal court cases involving School of Americas Watch and Voices in the Wilderness. He participated in a debate with representatives of the Pentagon at the University of San Francisco over the School of the Americas-WHISC in an event sponsored by the University of San Francisco and its law school in February.

Patricia Richardson was hired as an administrative assistant in City College (Baton Rouge campus). Richardson received her bachelor of arts degree in human resources from Colorado Christian University. She worked as a substitute teacher and has more than 21 years experience in computer programming.

Brad Showalter joined the Office of Admissions as an admissions counselor. Sho-walter received his bachelor's degree in psychology and communications from Loyola University. Showalter worked as a student intern in Loyola University Office of Athletics. He is also a volunteer for the Louisiana Association of Student Council's Leadership Workshop.

Krista Whittington joined the Department of Communications as an administrative assistant. Whittington received her bachelor of arts degree in communications from North Carolina University and is presently working on her graduate degree in environmental communications at Loyola University. She has more than 10 years experience in office management, publications, and graphic design.

The Monroe Library has won the 2004 H.W. Wilson Library Staff Development Award, which will be presented at the American Library Association conference in Orlando in June. Professor Laurie Gibson and the Professional Development Team were responsible for writing the winning grant application, which resulted in an award of $3,500 for workshops for library faculty and staff.
