November 14, 2003 New faculty on campusDuring the fall convocation, deans introduced new faculty members to the university at large. This last installment features those new scholars in the College of Business Administration, College of Music, School of Law, and University Library. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Michelle Johnston, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of management. She held an appointment for the past four years as a term contract faculty member at Loyola. Her principal area of teaching responsibility is business communications. She has served as a consultant to Pan American Life Insurance Company, Pfizer, Peter A. Mayer Advertising, Entergy Corporation, and PJ's Coffee. Kirsten Daniel, assistant professor of economics, earned her Ph.D. from University of Birmingham (UK). Prior positions include a two-year term contract faculty position at Loyola, one year as a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and three years as a lecturer at the University of Birmingham. Her principal areas of teaching responsibility are principles of economics, intermediate theory, and labor economics. Chandra Schorg, assistant professor of accounting, earned her MBA from Texas Woman's University. She is a certified public accountant. She has taught at Loyola as a visiting assistant professor and spent 13 years at Texas Woman's University. Schorg's principal areas of responsibility are teaching undergraduate accounting courses, advising students, and working with student organizations. Kendra Reed, visiting assistant professor of management, earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Her prior positions include two years as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and one year as a visiting assistant professor at Syracuse University. Her principal areas of teaching responsibility are human resource management and organizational behavior. Miguel Caldas, Gerald N. Gaston Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, earned his Ph.D. from Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), São Paulo, Brazil. His prior appointments were six years at FGV and 10 years at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing in São Paulo, Brazil. He also has worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Andersen Business Consulting, and Coopers & Lybrand Consulting. COLLEGE OF MUSIC Jeremy Brekke, instructor of trumpet, holds a B.S. in music education from North Dakota State University, M.A. of music in trumpet performance and is completing his Ph.D. in trumpet performance, and pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado. He has held public school teaching positions in North Dakota and Minnesota, and teaching assistant positions in Northern Colorado. Brekke has performed with the Fargo/Moorhead, Grand Forks, Fort Collins, and Greeley Symphony orchestras and Central City Opera. Gregory Davis, visiting instructor of music business, holds a BA in music from Loyola. He currently serves as the jazz coordinator for the N.O. Jazz and Heritage Festival, owner of Blodie Entertainment, booking manager for Festival Productions, Inc., and technical manager for the Essence Music Festival. Davis is the co-founder of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, B.B. King, and on "The Tonight Show," "Late Night with David Letterman," MTV, CNN, BET, and NPR. Valerie Woodring Goertzen, visiting assistant professor of music history, holds a B.A. in music from Whittier College, M.M. in musicology and Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Illinois. She has taught at Wesleyan University, UNC at Greensboro, Wake Forest University, Kenyon College, and Earlham College. Her research interests include music of the 19th century (particularly Brahms, Robert and Clara Schumann, and Chopin) and woman composers and performers. SCHOOL OF LAW Etheldra Scoggin is a reference librarian. She received her B.A. from Newcomb College, a J.D. from the University of Houston, and her M.S. in library and information science from Louisiana State University. UNIVERSITY LIBRARY Alicia Hansen is a music library services coordinator. She holds a BFA in piano performance and English from Tulane University, an MME in piano pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, and MA in library and information science from Louisiana State University. She has taught high school English in the United States and in Japan. Edward Iglesias has been hired as technical services librarian/integrated library system coordinator. Iglesias holds a B.A. in English from Texas AM International University, an M.A. in English from Texas AM International University, and a M.A. in library and information science from the University of Texas. Prior to coming to Loyola, he was as head librarian at Delgado Community College. |
