November 14, 2003 LIM presents a lecture and workshopThe Loyola Institute for Ministry (LIM) will present a lecture and course titled "The Interface of Doctrine and Story: Being Faithful to Catholic Tradition" Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, 2003. The lecture on Friday evening will be in the Audubon Room, from 7 10 p.m., with a reception and book signing to follow. Saturday's workshop will take place in Octavia Rooms I and II and will run from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. The Rev. Robert J. Hater, from Cincinnati, Ohio, will be the presenter. In Friday's lecture, Hater will discuss whether religious educators of the 1970s-1990s use of storytelling and activity-based learning was successful in getting students more engaged in religious education or catechetical experiences. On Saturday, the workshop will explain how doctrine developed out of the pastoral needs of the community of faith, and how mythos, ritual and symbol can bring life to the content of the Cathechism of the Catholic Church to provide an effective means for engaging students and helping them grow more deeply in their love for both God and the church. Hater, professor emeritus of the University of Dayton and a professor of pastoral and systematic theology at the Athenaeum of Ohio, a graduate school of theology sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, is the author of 15 books. He is a priest of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Friday's lecture is free to the public. The fees for the Saturday workshop are $218 for one graduate credit; $110 for one continuing education credit; $70 per single non-credit listener participant. A special price is offered: pay for three participants from the same church, school, or organization for Saturday, the fourth person will be admitted for free as a non-credit participant.
