Professional journalists honor Loyola students

The Society of Professional Journalists named the Loyola Student Chapter the Outstanding Chapter of Region XII Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and western Tennesseeat its annual convention in Tampa, Fla., in September.

Loyola communications major Holly Kangas, vice-president, accepted the award for Crystal Bolner, the 2002-03 president. Other newly elected officers are Gene Guillot, president; Gillian Dicker, secretary; and Chuck Alexander, treasurer.

About 20 students attended the first meeting of the school year on Sept. 16. The club, which sponsors several journalism events and programs, is open to all student journalists: newspaper, magazine, photo, radio, television and online. If you would like to get involved in SPJ, please e-mail Guillot at gdguillot@loyno.edu or Kangas at hmkangas@loyno.edu.
