Monroe Library presented Excellence in Academic Libraries Award

The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and Blackwell's Book Services presented the faculty and staff of the J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library with the 2003 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award at an outdoor ceremony April 1.

Accepting the award were (pictured from right): Benefactor Bobby Monroe, Interim Provost Lydia Voigt, Chair of the Library Visiting Committee Gary Mannina, University Pres-ident Bernard P. Knoth, S.J, Dean of Libraries Mary Lee Sweat, ACRL President Helen Spalding, and Blackwell representative John Laraway.

The award recognizes the library programs that deliver exemplary services and resources to further the educational mission of the institution. The library received $3,000 and a citation and will receive special recognition at the ACRL President's Program during the American Library Association (ALA) annual conference on June 23 in Toronto.

"The Monroe Library faculty and staff are thrilled to receive the Excellence in Academic Libraries award as an affirmation of their contributions to achieving excellence and as an acknowledgment of the partnerships the library shares with the campus community," Sweat said. "It is difficult to imagine a more talented and innovative group of people than our library faculty and staff, and I feel fortunate to work with them in achieving this award."
