| May 9, 2003 Faculty/Staff FootnotesMary Aplin joined Information Technology as a support analyst. Brian J. Bonnell was hired as a police officer in University Police. Lucy Connors joined the Division of Institutional Advancement as an administrative assistant in the Office of the Annual Fund. John Crutti was hired in Information Technology as a lab support specialist. David Estes, assistant provost and associate professor of English, was named one of 37 fellows of the American Council on Education (ACE) for 2003-2004. Estes will examine implementation of strategic plans that call for university collaboration. During the program, fellows attend three week-long seminars on higher education issues organized by ACE, read extensively in the field, and engage in other activities to enhance their knowledge about the challenges and opportunities confronting higher education. The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing promising faculty and senior administrators for responsible positions in college and university administrations. Melany Linder Graham joined the Office of Admissions as a counselor/visit coordinator. Jeanne Guimond joined City College as an administrative assistant. Alicia Hansen has joined the Monroe Library faculty as the Music Library servicescoordinator. Stephen Haupt joined Information Technology as a technician. Edward Iglesias, integrated library systems coordinator in the Monroe Library, presented a paper, "Open Source Culture," at the 11th National Conference of the Association of College and Research Libraries. The paper will be published in the proceedings of the conference available soon in the library. Carol Jeandron, director of the Office of Service Learning, presented the session "K-12/Higher Education Service-Learning Partnerships: Weaving Connections for Student Success and Civic Engagement" at the 14th annual National Service Learning Conference in Minneapolis in April. Olga Lewis joined the School of Law as an administrative assistant in the Office of Admissions. Belhia V. Martin, career counselor/coordinator of judicial clerkships, public interest, government, and diversity programs, was awarded the A.P. Tureaud Award by the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at Loyola and Tulane. Martin received the award in recognition of her tireless dedication, service, and commitment to the A.P. Tureaud Chapter of BLSA. "This award was especially dear to me," Martin says, "because of the students with whom I have worked at the law school and because A.P. Tureaud was such an important person in my family's life. His name was a 'household word.' Both of my parents were civil rights activists and two of the founders of the Ninth Ward Voters League. They were inspirations to me in my educational and legal careers." Edward Matthews joined Information Technology as a lab support specialist. The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities presented David Moore, chair and associate professor of history, with the 2003 Special Humanities Award. Over the last 12 years, Moore has directed 23 Readings in Literature and Culture programs throughout the greater New Orleans area. He was among four recipients who received their award at a special ceremony in the governor's mansion in April. Brad Pettifils was hired as an instructional technology support specialist in the Monroe Library. Deborah Poole, public services coordinator and Beth Orgeron, library instruction coordinator of the Monroe Library, served on a panel discussion titled "Incorporating Information Fluency in the Core" at the Third Jesuit Core Curriculum Conference at Xavier University in Cincinnati in March. The theme of the conference was developing the Jesuit Core in a Global Society. |
