Loyola welcomes syndicated columnist

Cynthia Tucker speaks April 24

Cynthia Tucker, editorial page editor of The Atlanta JournalConstitution and syndicated columnist, will speak Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m., in the St. Charles Room of the Danna Center.

Tucker will address the need for better international news coverage in her talk, "News After Iraq: What We Need to Know Now."

Tucker is responsible for guiding the development of The Atlanta Journal-Consti-tution's editorial policies on issues ranging from foreign policy to local schools. Since 1992 she has held the most influential liberal platform in the South, the editorial position previously identified with historic figures Henry Grady and Ralph McGill at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Tucker also has considerable reporting experience, filing dispatches from Africa, Central America, and Cuba. She is a frequent commentator on the "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" and "CNN and Company." Her nationally-syndicated column appears regularly in The Times-Picayune.

A Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, Tucker was the 2000 winner of the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Distinguished Writing Award. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Women's Media Foundation, the National Association of Black Journalists, American Society of Newspaper Editors, the National Association of Minority Media Executives, and the Council on Foreign Affairs.
