Loyola offers summer camps packed with fun, games, and learning

First, the College of Music offers a Loyola Jazz Band Camp from June 15­21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The camp is open to 7th through 12th graders, intermediate and above musicians, only those who focus on the trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar, drums or saxophone. Cost is $150, with dormitory space available for students 14-years and older. To achieve balance instrumentation, the number of each instrument will be limited. Loyola Jazz faculty will teach theory, improvisation, combo, big band, private lessons, and master classes.

The College of Music also will offer a Preparatory Ballet Program from June 23­July 31. The program is open to children 13 years and older. Tuition is $320 and individual ballet class costs $12. Intermediate and advanced ballet dancing, partnering, and variations will comprise the workshop. The program is based on the Vaganova (Russian) technique. Classes will be held in Communications/Music Complex Room 106.

Second, the Department of Visual Arts will sponsor the Loyola Children's Summer Art Program 2003. The camp will be divided into two, two-week sessions. Session I runs July 7­18 and Session II from July 21­August 1. Tuition is $220 for general public and $200 for children of Loyola faculty and staff, including a $50 non-refundable application fee. Refunds will not be given after June 2. The camp runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is offered to children 7 to 14 years of age. Painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, and mixed media projects will be offered. Children may attend ONLY one session. A final art exhibition for family and friends will be held.

Third, the Loyola Recreational and Sports Complex offers a summer camp June 2­July 25. The camp is divided into four, two-week sessions and is open to children 5 years through 6th grade. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Monday-Friday. Baseball, basketball, karate, floor hockey, lacrosse, recreational games, soccer, swimming, tennis, water polo, volleyball, and arts and crafts will be offered. Session I runs June 2­13, Session II runs June 16­27, Session III runs June 30­July 11, and Session IV runs July 14­25. The cost to Sports Complex members is $195 for sessions I, II, and IV and $175 for session III. For non-members, the cost is $215 for sessions I, II, and IV, and $195 for session III. Before and after care and lunch are available at an additional fee.
