| March 14, 2003 Loyola community gears up for Spring 2003 commencementAll faculty and administrative staff are invited and encouraged to participate in Spring 2003 commencement activities on campus. Baccalaureate MassThe university-wide Baccalaureate Mass begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15, in the Marquette Horseshoe. Participating faculty and staff, dressed in academic attire, should assemble on the Thomas Hall side of the Marquette balcony 30 minutes prior to the Mass in order to line up for the processional. Representatives from University Ministry will lead the procession, which will follow the candidates for graduation. Commencement CeremoniesThe School of Law Commencement Ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., on Friday, May 16, in the Recreational Sports Complex. If you will be participating in the School of Law ceremony, please meet in the University Ministry Living Room in Bobet Hall no later than 6 p.m. on Friday evening. Here you will robe in academic attire and assemble in the proper order for the ceremonial procession. The College of Arts and Sciences Commencement Ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 17, in the Marquette Horseshoe. Alumnus Sean O'Keefe, A'77, administrator of NASA, will give the commencement remarks and receive an honorary degree. If you are participating in the College of Arts and Sciences Commencement Ceremony, please meet in Marquette 306 on the third floor no later than 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. Here you will robe in academic attire and assemble in the proper order for the ceremonial procession. University President Bernard P. Knoth S.J., will give the commencement remarks. Tom Smith, Ph.D., associate dean of the college, and Georgia Gresham, drama and speech chair, have agreed to act as our official ceremony marshals and will be on hand to assist in directing the faculty/staff assembly. Likewise, Vicki McNeil, Ed.D., associate vice president of student affairs, and Joseph Harris, associate professor of drama and speech, will assist with the stage party. The College of Music, College of Business Administration, and City College Commencement Ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., on Saturday, May 17, in the Marquette Horseshoe. If you are participating in the College of Music, College of Business Administration, and City College Commencement Ceremony, please meet in Marquette 306 on the third floor no later than 6 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Knoth will give the commencement remarks. Tony Decuir, Ph.D., associate dean of the College of Music, and Bill Barnett, Ph.D., associate professor of economics, have agreed to act as our official ceremony marshals and will be on hand to assist in directing the faculty/staff assembly. Likewise, Nan Davis, director of recreational sports, and Wing Fok, associate professor of management, will assist with the stage party. The rain site for the commencement ceremonies is the Recreational Sports Complex. ReceptionsThe Loyola Law Alumni Association will host a reception in the St. Charles Room in the Danna Center for law graduates and their families immediately following the School of Law Commencement Ceremony. The Loyola Alumni Association will host a reception in the Palm Court for all graduates and their families immediately following each of the commencement ceremonies. Additional notesIf you have not done so already, please notify the Office of Public Affairs of your ability to participate by returning the reply card to public affairs before Tuesday, April 22. This is important in order to ensure the proper number of chairs on the stage. The university is expecting large crowds on Saturday. Faculty and staff attending Saturday's commencement ceremonies are urged to park on the Broadway campus. Shuttle service will be available to bring you to and from the main campus.
