Reynolds R. (Butch) Ekstrom, associate director of the Institute for Ministry, and with his wife, Lynn Ekstrom, associate director of youth ministry for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, gave a presentation on September 14 at the Annual Catechetical Conference of the Diocese of Lake Charles, La. The topic of the workshop presentation was "The Ys: Getting to Know the Millennial Generation." The National Federation has named Ekstrom a 2002 recipient of the National Youth Ministry Award for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM). The award recognizes his career contribution as an educator and trainer in the field of youth ministry. It will be given on December 5 in Denver at the bi-annual National Catholic Youth Ministry Conference.

Eric Gorham, associate professor of political science, was a discussant for the panel, "Models for Studying Service Learning" and Carol Jeandron, director of Service Learning, chaired the session at the second annual International Conference on Service Learning Research Conference in Nashville in October.

Professor of Law Bobby Marzine Harges' evidence treatise titled Harges and Jones' Louisiana Evidence (4th Edition), was recently published by the West Group. Professor Russell L. Jones is co-author.

Anthony Ladd, associate professor of sociology, delivered a presentation on "Environmental Resistance" at the Association for Humanist Sociology meetings in Madison, Wis. Ladd also chaired and presented in a panel on "Environmental Disruption and Change in the South" and served as a paper discussant for a session on "Environmental Sociology" at the Mid-South Sociological Association meetings in Memphis, Tenn.

Catherine Comiskey Marsh, who has served as director of the Office of the Annual Fund, is now the senior development officer for the School of Law. Carla Strickland, assistant director, is serving as acting director of the annual fund.

Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Law, the Rev. Lawrence Moore, S.J., and his family were honored with the Legacy Award from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Moore, who received his juris doctor in 1981 from UMKC, was the eighth member of his family to graduate from the university dating back to 1899. Moore, his sister, Kathryn, and brother, Stephen, all graduates, accepted the award on behalf of their parents, grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle.

William A. Neilson, professor of law, addressed the 62nd Annual Conference of the American Society of Women Accountant in New Orleans. Neilson presented "Tax Fraud: How to Avoid Going to Jail and the Civil Fraud Penalty" to more than 350 female accountants.

Peter Nguyen was hired as a police officer.

L. Hill Rowan joined the Division of Institutional Advancement as the director of corporate and foundation relations.

Professor of Law Keith Vetter presented a paper at the 56th session of the Societé Internationale Pour l' Histoire des Droits de l'Antique, held at the University of Cagliari School of Law in Sardinia, Italy. The title of the paper was "La compilacion de Justiniano: su implementacion en los Estados Unidos en el dia del hoy." A precis of the paper, "La compilation du Justinien: son application actuelle aux Etats-Unis," will be published in an upcoming edition of the Revue Internationale des Droits de l'Antiquité.
