| November 8, 2002 Loyola Circle K hosts child safety fairKids will be kids, and to them, anything can be a source of fun. However, sometimes what seems to be fun to a child can be a potentially hazardous situation. Every year millions of children are hurt or killed by accidents such as drowning in pools, breaking bones from falling off bikes, or ingesting poison. Most of these accidents can be prevented, and Loyola's Circle K will be holding a child safety fair to raise awareness about the best ways to protect your children. The fair will be held on Sunday, November 17, in the St. Charles Room of the Danna Center, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Booths will be set up to address such topics as bike safety, fire safety, car safety, poison control, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and water safety. The fair will host vendors who will be selling products that can make the household safer. Handout and informational speeches will be available for parents. For children, there will be games and activities that will teach them how to ride a bike correctly; stop, drop, and roll; and how to tell the difference between candy and medicine. Police officers will be present to perform child fingerprinting at no cost to the parents, a very valuable tool if a child ever becomes missing. Members from local Circle K clubs will be on hand to help. The fair is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. Student Rebecca Fox, Loyola Circle K service chair, stresses, "So many children are hurt or killed each year by accidents that are easily preventable. If we can save the life of just one child this year, then this fair will have been worthwhile." Jessica Davis, A'04, Intern in the Offices of Public Affairs and Publications |
