October 11, 2002 One year laterTo remember and honor the 2,800 people who lost their lives on September 11, the Loyola community held two poignant events.Eric Gorham, associate professor of political science, moderated an academic panel presentation titled "One Year After," which featured Joseph Ganisky, Ph.D., Banc One Professor of International Business; Sarah Gualtieri, Ph.D., assistant professor of history; Ken Keulman, Ph.D., professor of religious studies; and Larry Lorenz, Ph.D., professor of communications. The Student Government Association, University Ministry, and the Office of the Provost held a memorial service where names of all the victims were read and a candle was lit for each. "For me, the memorial service was extremely moving. Every aspect
of it, the readings, the candles lit in memoriam for the victims, the
music, and the sermon by Fr. Eddie, beautifully memorialized those who
died, while simultaneously instilling hope in the future of our country.
I have never felt more connected with the entire Loyola community than
I did at that service." |
