Knoth celebrates 25 years as a Jesuit

The New Orleans Province will honor University President Bernard P. Knoth, S.J., on his silver anniversary as a Jesuit priest. Knoth, along with other area Jesuits celebrating their 25, 50, 60, and 65 year anniversaries, will be acknowledged at a summer Mass and reception hosted by The Jesuits, part of the New Orleans Province.

Thousands will join in the July 28 Mass and Jubilee celebration at the Church of the Immaculate Conception and a reception at the Fairmont Hotel. Knoth was ordained June 11, 1977, at St. Ignatius Church in Chicago. He became Loyola's 15th president in August 1995.

Others in the Loyola community celebrating years of service include the Rev. Thomas H. Clancy, S.J. (60 years), the Rev. Louis A. Poché, S.J. (60 years), the Rev. George W. Wiltz, S.J. (50 years), the Rev. Lawrence W. Moore, S.J. (25 years), the Rev. Simon J. Hendry, S.J. (25 years), and Bro. Charles J. Blouin (25 years and final vows). The public is invited to attend the Mass and reception.

In other exciting news about the university president, Knoth and Dillard University President Michael Lomax are co-chairs of the Police Chief Search Committee. Mayor-elect Ray Nagin, in a display of confidence and admiration for the academic leaders, handpicked them to lead the committee. The New Orleans Police Department is one of the largest departments in city government.
