April 13, 2001 Provost and Academic Vice President at Loyola University Protocol for Search1. The Search CommitteeThe Search Committee will consist of nine regular members. Eight of the regular members will be ordinary faculty, who are under contract as tenured or tenure-designate, and will be elected by the constituents they represent. The College of Arts and Sciences will elect three members, one representative each for the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. The College of Business Administration, School of Law, College of Music, and City College will each elect one representative. The University Library will elect one member who will represent all library faculty including the Music and Law Libraries. Each school should conduct its election according to the ordinary process followed when electing representatives. In addition to the elected regular members of the Search Committee, each school will elect the same number of alternate members who will replace a regular member automatically when a regular member is unable to attend a Search Committee meeting. Each school should determine how to elect the alternate member; it may variously be determined by a second election, or designated the runner-up position in the election of the regular member. The President will appoint the ninth member of the Search Committee, choosing a faculty member, administrator, staff member, or Trustee. The Dean of each school will provide the names of the regular and alternate Search Committee members to the President on or before April 30, 2001. The nine regular members of the committee will elect the Chair of the Search Committee. 2. Time lineThe Dean's Office of the school will conduct the elections during the month of April 2001. The regular members of the Search Committee will meet in early May 2001 to elect the Chair of the Search Committee. The regular and alternate members of the Search Committee will have one plenary session in May 2001 with the President and the Director of Human Resources to review basic policies and procedures that are applicable to the search process. 3. Summer 2001The President and Chair of the Search Committee will meet as required to establish a calendar of Search Committee meetings, to coordinate publicity and advertisements of the opening, and to agree on a means to insure broad faculty community consultation.
