March 9, 2001 Groundbreaking artist to appear at Loyola
Hsu-Li is considered a pioneer among Asian-American women in music. Her debut album Muscle and Bone was released in 1997, and her second release Evolution came out in 1999. Her music has been described as "lovely and graceful one moment and scathing and powerful the next." Her style ranges from acoustic to pop and alternative, and is designed to raise consciousness and awareness about the role of women and men in the world. Hsu-Li's musical performances encompass poetry, drum solos, and standup theatre. She has received much recognition for her work, including a nomination for the Gay and Lesbian American Music Award. In addition to her musical performances, Hsu-Li gives workshops and presentations on a wide array of topics, including "Asians in the Arts" and "Redefinition of Identity." She performs widely on college campuses.Hsu-Li is also the founder of Femme Vitale, The Seattle Women's Music and Arts Coalition.
