Lynda Favret keeps information in the communications department flowing

by Betsy Schmitt, 01, Intern in the Offices of Public Affairs and Publications

Lynda Favret, administrative assistant to the department of communications chair, can be found taking calls from all over Loyola. In the communications department, ask Lynda and you'll get the right answer. She has been working at Loyola for 10 years as an administrative assistant doing everything from accounting to planning parties. The communications office is the center of the department. Favret and the other staff members take care of the reading room, equipment in the department, and any supplies needed. Favret says her favorite part of her job, besides being self-sufficient, is the interaction she has with students and faculty. Faculty depend on her to direct misguided students and calm their scheduling fears. Favret says the students are fun to work with and she lends her ear when needed. "Some students don't have their mothers or fathers in town to listen and lend support. I'm here to listen," says Favret.

Favret sees her good attitude as a necessity and expects nothing in return. This great attitude makes the difference when students flock into the communications office every fall and spring around scheduling time. Favret's love of university life and Loyola increased when she returned from living out of state, and for the last 10 years she has appreciated the Jesuit values that abound on campus. She has worked in the Loyola admissions office, the chemistry department, and the visual arts department.

"Being in this job for this long, I know about the department," says Favret. Resolving daily issues in the department and answering faculty and student questions keeps Favret busy, but not too busy to attend daily Mass and keep fit using the recreational center every afternoon. Favret has met many people at Loyola and considers them friends. Many people depend on her knowledge of the campus and ability steer them in the right direction. Working with work-study students and staff, Favret complements the university's reputation for friendliness.

"I love dealing with college students and enjoy university life because of its educational and cultural activities, and the warm and friendly atmosphere," said Favret.
