Loyola announces four new Board of Trustees members

The Loyola Board of Trustees has four new members. They are Janet S. Boles, an attorney with Boles, Boles & Ryan, Baton Rouge; Arthur Q. Davis, FAIA, partner in the firm of Curtis and Davis; William J. Guste, III, L'73, an attorney with Guste, Barnett & Shushan; and the Rev. Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of the University of Scranton.

Officers for 2000 2001 Loyola Board of Trustees are Donna D. Fraiche, L'75, chair; Jerome J. Reso, Jr., vice chair; Rev. Lawrence W. Moore, S.J., secretary/treasurer; and University President Bernard P. Knoth, S.J.

A native of Rayville, La., Boles practices in the areas of public utility law, corporate law, telecommunications, and gaming law. She is the former attorney for Casino America and the Grand Palais Casino. Boles obtained three of 15 riverboat licenses from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. She has served on and chaired the Louisiana Mineral Board and has represented several water companies. Presently, she represents all of the independent telephone companies in the state of Louisiana. She serves on the boards of directors for Baton Rouge Community College, The Children's Developmental Center, and Auxiliary Board for Goodwill and Red Cross.

Arthur Davis has a master of architecture degree from Harvard University. His designs have transformed New Orleans' neighborhoods and skyline. Other local buildings he has designed include the New Orleans Arena, the Hyatt Regency, Royal Sonesta and Royal Orleans hotels, and the New Orleans Performing Arts Center, among many others. He has designed hotels, public buildings, shopping centers, office buildings, schools and libraries, banks, hospitals, and correctional institutions throughout the nation and abroad. Davis' firm has received over 50 awards for design excellence. Davis is past president of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and the New Orleans Museum of Art. He is a past-board member of the National D-Day Museum and has served on the boards of numerous other civic organizations.

Civil trial law is the area in which William Guste, III, has practiced since graduating from the Loyola School of Law in 1973. Guste, his wife and father, as well as other family members, are graduates of Loyola. The father of six children, he has been very active in the parent's organizations of their schools. He also served on the board of the New Orleans Community Food Bank and the Tourist and Convention Commission. He was appointed to Loyola's President's Council in 1994.

Prior to his appointment as president of the University of Scranton, the Rev. Joseph M. McShane, S.J., served as dean of Fordham College at Rose Hill and a professor of theology at Fordham University in New York. McShane also served as the chair and taught in the Department of Religious Studies at LeMoyne University in Syracuse, New York, and served on the boards at Fordham University, Fordham Preparatory School and other colleges and preparatory schools. McShane has published numerous articles in academic and religious publications, among those the Encyclopedia Micropedia 15^th edition, and Encyclopedia of Religion.
