September 1, 2000 Editors of Jesuit publications met this summer at LoyolaThe fourth annual meeting of the Association of Editors for Jesuit Publications (AEJP) took place on campus July 15 18; more than 40 editors from Jesuit universities/colleges, Jesuit high/prep schools, provinces, and regional/national Catholic publications throughout North America gathered for seminars on editing and writing, learning about technological advances in publishing, and fostering the Jesuit mission. The conference was sponsored by Company, the Chicago-based magazine of the American Jesuits, which is edited by AEJP conference chair Martin McHugh and published by Loyola Board of Trustees member, the Rev. Daniel L. Flaherty, S.J. Jesuit college and universities were represented at the event by editors and writers from Fairfield University, Loyola University New Orleans, Marquette University, Saint Louis University, and Saint Peter's College. Conference highlights included a multimedia lecture on early Jesuit methods of communication through fine art; an all-day publications workshop; a panel presentation on communication's role in the Ignatian vision, featuring Loyola's Crescent City Farmers Market director Richard McCarthy; a marketing/public relations seminar by alumnus John Deveney, A'88; and a roundtable on editorial style led by Office of Publications and Marketing Communications Director Julia McSherry. The group, which meets each summer on the campus of a Jesuit university, will be hosted in July 2001 by Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn. Past host universities have included Loyola University Chicago, Saint Louis University, and Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Arthur Stern |
