May 12, 2000 Administrative Senate activity summaryAdministrative (staff) Senate highlights during the past academic year have included a number of guest speakers (detailed below), comprehensive input toward the proposed revision of Ongoing Institutional Objective #5: Staff Responsibilities (presented at the February 2000 University Planning Team meeting); and the formation of a new senate subcommittee focusing on staff-student integration. The subcommittee was created as a response to Ongoing Institutional Objective #5 which currently states: "Members of the staff, in their various capacities, will enrich the education of Loyola students through the services they provide and the guidance they offer." Guests at monthly senate meetingsheld July 1999 May 2000included University President Bernard P. Knoth, S.J.; Director of Athletics Jerry Hernandez; Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management Debbie Stieffel; Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs Lydia Voigt; Dean of Campus Ministry John Weling, S.J.; Vice President for Business and Finance Rhonda Cartwright; Director of the Annual Fund Terry Utterback; former Director of Alumni and Parent Relations Tom Weatherall; and Coordinator of Employment and Training, Human Resources, Donna Goforth. In the continuing effort to be more involved with students, campus organization presidents/chairs Joe Bellows (Student Government Association), Joseph Jones (Inter-Fraternity Council), and Amber Ramanauskas (Loyola University Community Action Program) gave presentations throughout the year, highlighting the impressive contributions of their respective groups. Each meeting also featured reports from various senators who also serve on other university committees, including Administrative Senate Elections, Catholic and Jesuit Identity, Fringe Benefits, Parking, Recreational Sports, and the University Planning Team. A non-voting staff member (the senate chair) is now invited to each of the Board of Trustee meetings and reports on those sessions at subsequent senate meetings. The new, aforementioned senate subcommittee, chaired by Gail Howard, worked on initiatives concerning increased staff/student interaction, staff support at university-sponsored student events (i.e., Student Government Association's Wolves on the Prowl), and proposed mentoring programs for new and current students. Election results for the 2000 - 2001 academic year are as follows: Al Alcazar (representing Academic Affairs); Jay Calamia and Dave Huffman (representing Financial Affairs); Bob Gross and Trish Moser (representing Institutional Advancement); and Michelle Andrews (representing Student Affairs) will begin or renew two-year terms as senators effective July 2000. Entering their final year of their senate terms are Gail Howard, Avia Morgan, and Paula Ruiz-Saurage (Academic Affairs); Debbie Diliberto and Charles Marshall (Financial Affairs); Maureen King and Arthur Stern (Institutional Advancement); and Robert Reed, Karen Shields, and Germayne Turner (Student Affairs). Senate officers for the 2000 2001 academic year will be elected at the group's meeting of July 11. Meeting minutes, agendas, and senate bylaws/constitution continue to be available and updated on the group's website at http://www.loyno.edu/facultyandstaff/administrativesenate/.
