Loyola board member holds book signings

Loyola University Board of Trustees member, Dr. Rose Marie Toussaint, recently had published her autobiography that details her journey from the poor streets of Haiti to collegiate scholar to one of this country's most respected surgeons. Never Question the Miracle: A Surgeon's Story (One World/Ballantine Books), documents how academics and spirituality helped Toussaint overcome tremendous obstacles and succeed despite the odds.

In New Orleans for Loyola's board meeting, Toussaint will hold two book signings at local bookstores with partial proceeds to benefit Loyola. On Thursday, November 18, she will discuss and sign copies of her book at the African-American BookStop from noon to 1:30 p.m. The BookStop is located downtown in the New Orleans Centre. On Friday, November 19, Toussaint will be at the Community Book Center from 6 to 8 p.m. The Book Center is located at 217 North Broad Street

Toussaint is one of a handful of women in the United States who specializes in liver and kidney transplants. She received a bachelor of science degree from Loyola in 1978 and a medical doctor from Howard University in 1983. She completed her residency at Howard University School of Medicine, a clinical fellowship from the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, and a visiting fellowship in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin. Toussaint and her family immigrated to America from her native Haiti when she was 13.
