November 19, 1999 Ballet presents fall concertThe Loyola Ballet will present excerpts from the ballet La Sylphide during its fall concert on Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Performance Hall in the university's Communications/Music Complex, 6363 St. Charles Avenue. The ballet is set to music by Herman Lovenskiold and restaged by Loyola ballet director Laura Zambrano. It is the tale of a young Scotsman, portrayed by guest artist Eddy Villalta, who dreams of another world which the sylphide, danced by Anna Kopieczek, symbolizes. The sylphide succeeds in luring the young Scotsman away from his beloved and his earthy existence into her more ethereal world. Other featured works include the pas de trois from "Kingdom of the Shades" from La Bayadere, set to music by Leon Minkus; variations from La Vivandiere, set to music by Cesare Pugni; Queen Mekhmeneh Bahnu's variation and the pas de deux of Princess Shyrin and Ferkhad from the Legend of Love, set to music by Arif Melikov; and a contemporary pas de deux to Bailero from Songs of the Auvergne, set to music by Joseph Canteloube. Original works, choreographed by Loyola students Kenneth Bryan and Jeri Krayecki, also will be presented. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call ext. 3492 or Laura Zambrano at ext. 2778. |
