Loyola sponsors Women and Men Take Back the Night march

Loyola sponsors the ninth annual Women and Men Take Back the Night march on Tuesday, October 19, beginning in the Marquette Hall horseshoe at 7 p.m. The march is a call to end sexual violence.

The evening begins with speakers sharing their personal and emotionally charged stories of rape, assault, or domestic violence, ending with messages of healing and hope. Next, candles are lighted by survivors of violence and carried into the crowd to light participants' candles. This provides a visual image of the large number of people whose lives have been impacted by violence.

The march route proceeds from Loyola up St. Charles Avenue to Broadway, turning onto Freret Street ending in Tulane's Pocket Park. Here others will have the opportunity to speak out against violence in this community.

The Women and Men Take Back the Night march is open to the entire Greater New Orleans communitysurvivors and supporters. The event is sponsored by Loyola and Tulane universities. Last year, over 500 people participated in the march.
