Exhibit salutes award-winning visual artists

Five Loyola visual arts professors' current works are on exhibit as part of a celebration of 16 years of artistic achievement. In the exhibit, Living in Louisiana, the Louisiana Division of the Arts is paying tribute to those artists who received visual arts fellowships from 1981 to 1998. The exhibit includes the work of 51 artists.

The five participating Loyola professors are: Gerald Lee Cannon, assistant professor of foundation and computer imaging; Jan Gilbert, instructor; Mark Grote, professor of sculpture; William Kitchens, assistant professor of printmaking and drawing; and Steve Rucker, associate professor of ceramics.

An Artist's Fellowship is a $5,000 award based on the artist's work; artistic focus and consistent artistic development as evidenced by the artist's resume, artist statement, and samples of work; and the impact of the fellowship on the artist's career.

Cannon's exhibited piece, Drawing Conclusions, is a 32" x 44" digital print. Gilbert's Biography of a Ballplayer is a mixed media installation. Grote offers OBJ #147, a 10 "x 12" x 1.5" mixed media display. Kitchens' exhibited piece is titled Allies, a 10.5 " x 13.5 Intaglio. Rucker's piece is a ceramic mixed media titled Better Homes, Better Gardens.

The exhibit is on display at the Visual Arts Center and Collins C. Diboll Gallery in the Monroe Library through October 31.
