October 29, 1999 Black Student Union hosts annual Alumni and Professional galaThe Black Student Union (BSU) will recognize Loyola faculty, staff, alumni, and friends from the surrounding community as well as award merit scholarships to current Loyola students as part of the Alumni and Professional Gala on Friday, November 12, 1999, in the St. Charles Room. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and the gala starts at 7 p.m. The Alumni and Professional Gala is an annual event given by African-Americans for African-Americans who have made outstanding achievements in their fields. Eric Paulsen will host this year's event with guest speaker Sally Ann Roberts, both of WWL-TV's Eyewitness Morning News. The theme this year is "Millennial Celebration: A Look Back While Forging Forward." Five prestigious awards will be presented at the gala to outstanding graduates and community servants: the Black Student Union Outstanding Achievement Award, the Louis Westerfield Law Alumnus Award, the Dr. Anthony Recasner Outstanding Community Award, the Dr. Norman Roussell Commitment for Excellence Award, and the Norman Francis Distinguished Alumnus Award. Tickets for the gala are $20 per person, $35 per couple, and $5 for Loyola students with current IDs. Guests may purchase individual tickets or a table of eight for $90. Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served. Donations can be made for student scholarships The BSU was founded to provide an enriching and educational program from a black perspective and increase the understanding of the black culture and its significant contributions to society and history. The BSU executive board for the 1999 2000 school year is Arthur Meyers, president; Chante´ Vaughn, vice president; Annik Morgan, secretary; Zishan Michael, treasurer; and Ansel Augustine, parliamentarian.
