September 17, 1999 Telephone number conversion completed
A rapid expansion in the number of telephones and the construction of three new buildings on Loyola's main campus have required the addition of a new PBX telephone system. The new telephone system, installed last year, is located in the new Monroe Library. A shortage of telephone numbers also precipitated the need for a telephone number change for users in three other buildings on the main campus. Long-term planning required the addition of the new telephone system which now serves all users in Miller Hall, Monroe Library, Mercy Hall, the Recreational/Sports Complex, and the new residence hall. All telephone extensions in these buildings now use a new "864" prefix and the "7000" series of extensions. This new state-of-the-art telephone system will eventually expand to serve the entire main campus and replace the current telephone system located in the Danna Center. Users will see virtually no change in the way they use their telephones. Only the telephone number has changed. Recorded announcement intercepts are providing the new number to callers dialing the old extension. The new telephone system is completely and seamlessly integrated into the Danna Center PBX system and the Broadway campus PBX system. All on-campus users need only dial the four-digit extension number of any other user to make a call or send a fax. Jay Bertucci, Director of Telecommunications |
