International Fulbrigt Scholars visit Loyola
For
three weeks during the summer, Loyola hosted 30 international Fulbright
scholars. While at Loyola, the scholars learned language and communication
skills, as required for graduate school, and became familiar with American
culture through lectures, readings, classes, tours, clubs, and restaurants.
In the photo, business professor Wing Fok leads an academic development
seminar. Other speakers included history professors Mark Fernandez and
Nancy Anderson, professor and political science chair Philip Dynia, communications
professor Larry Lorenz, and associate professor and sociology chair Anthony
Ladd. According to Debbie Danna, director of international student affairs
and co-coordinator of the Fulbright program, last year's scholars were
quite impressed with the university and gave the program high marks. Ruth
Harman, associate director of Loyola's Intensive English Program, is also
co-coordinator of the Fulbright program. The Fulbright Scholarship is
among one of the most prestigious academic awards in the United States.
With a little help from mom, students moved into housing facilities and
began preparing for an exciting new year. Undergraduate and graduate classes
began August 30 and law classes started August 23.
