Around Campus

As part of the African Peace Tour, activists from the world’s largest continent visited Loyola on April 15 to share stories of violence and human rights violations in their homelands, solicit Americans support for improved U.S. policies toward Africa, and promote unity between the United States and Africa through education. In the photo, Loyola Associate Professor of History Raimi Adeleke (right) and the trip’s organizer (left) stands with the two speakers, Mozambique resident Bakary Tandia and Democratic Republic of Congo resident Rebecca Wakuteka.

Heisman trophy winner and current New Orleans Saints quarterback Danny Wuerffel was on campus April 7 to discuss uniting Christian beliefs into everyday life and his experiences as a college and professional football player. Wuerffel, a graduate of the University of Florida, was the featured speaker of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Night of Champions.

Three professors in the College of Arts and Sciences were invested in a ceremony on April 30. Pictured are Arts and Sciences Dean Frank Scully; Provost David C. Danahar; English Professor John Biguenet, the Robert Hunter Distinguished Professor; Sandra Rosenthal, the Provost Distinguished Professor; Carl H. Brans, the BancOne/Rev. James C. Carter, S.J., Professor; and University President Bernard P. Knoth, S.J.

Sgt. Lyle Hunter, a Loyola University police officer, is shown with New Orleans police officers who he is training on proper bicycle handling for effective bike control. Hunter trains police offficers throughout Lousiana and is one of only two active certified police bike patrol training instructors in the state of Louisiana. His one-week, 40-hour training session includes classroom instruction and roadwork training. Once the NOPD officers complete the course they are eligible for certification testing. Loyola University had the first certified university police bike patrol in the state.
