Journalism students win awards

Several Loyola University New Orleans communications students including The Maroon student newspaper staff competed in the Southeast Journalism Conference recently in Lafayette. Sixteen students won awards in their respective fields.

Awards went to: Patrick Condon, third place, photo essay; Joe Danborn, honorable mention, on-site radio broadcast, feature; Michael Giusti, first place, news section, and second place, news series and in-depth or investigative story news story; Elizabeth Keenan, first place, feature; Jennifer Levassuer, second place, review; Dave Lipka, first place, review, and second place, on-site music review; Celeste Marshall, second place, photo essay; Jessica Navay, first place, on-site photography; Pierce Presley, second place, news series editorial; August Smith, second place, news series; Mike Smith, honorable mention, sports news story; Sarah Sparks, first place, on-site feature, and second place, news series; Liz Stuart, first place, news section, and second place, on-site layout, newspaper ad 1/2 page or larger in-depth or investigative news story, inside news layout; Maria Vallejo, first place, best television news story; Jackie Wilneff, second place, news series; and Melissa Wong, second place, arts and entertainment column and best television documentary, and first place, best television news story and best television commercial.
