Alumni Legacy Scholarship Gala set

The Loyola University New Orleans Alumni Association presents the Alumni Legacy Scholarship Gala on Sunday, April 18, 1999. First introduced in 1992, this event supports an endowed scholarship which benefits children of alumni. This year, $15,000 in scholarship money is available. Fifteen students applied for the scholarship.

The gala begins with a 12:30 p.m. Mass in the St. Ignatius Chapel, followed at 1 p.m. with a reception in the new J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library and a 3 p.m. performance by the Loyola Symphony Orchestra in the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall in the Communications/Music Complex.

The Loyola Symphony Orchestra will perform the musically humorous Ninth Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich. The symphony is relatively short and not nearly as dark or as serious as his other works. The five-movement symphony contains many musical jokes. In addition, Wagner’s exciting “Rienzi Overture” and the ever-popular “Emperor Waltz” by Strauss will be performed. The Loyola Symphony Orchestra will feature Louisiana native tenor Rendell James, M’00, and Robert Monroe music scholarship recipient, and oboist Max Soto-Sibaja, M’01. L. Dean Angeles, professor and director of orchestra and string education, will conduct.

Tickets begin at $25. For more information and reservations, contact the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at ext. 5454 or e-mail at alumni@loyno.edu.
