Loyola Recycles!

In accordance with the university’s efforts to provide an environmentally sound atmosphere for working and learning, several venues are listed below in which students, staff, and faculty can recycle their aluminum cans, newspapers, and papers.

Aluminum can bins are located near the entrance/exit of all academic and residential buildings on campus. In addition to these, there are more bins on some floors of the residential halls. These receptacles are emptied every week by BFI Industries.

Newspapers are recycled in the dumpster located in the West Road garage. This dumpster is emptied when full.

Office papers bins are blue and are located in each department and in offices. An expanded office paper recycling program allows recycling of white and colored paper; computer printout; copy paper; fax paper; carbonless forms; envelopes; manila, white, and pastel colored file folders; and laser printed paper. These bins are emptied weekly.

However, there are no plans to expand recycling at Loyola because, according to Ann Tregle, assistant director of Physical Plant, the revenue generated by the program barely covers the costs. It is crucial that the university community continues to actively take part in the recycling effort.

Loyola University participates in the recycling equation by not only recycling waste products but also by using recycled goods. University letterhead, envelopes, business cards, and the Undergraduate Bulletin are printed on recycled paper.
