November 6, 1998 Memories and fun abound at annual reunion celebration
As part of Loyola Reunion Weekend, the coveted Adjutor Hominum Award was presented to Billye Rivet Judlin, P43, during the alumni luncheon on Friday, October 2. In addition to the luncheon, the weekend included a festive reception in the Palm Court which honored the Golden Wolves, members of the Class of 1947 and before. Saturday included a celebration of the 75th anniversary of The Maroon where former members of the student newspaper came together to relive memories of their times on the award-winning publication. Later that evening, individual classes gathered for fun times and reminiscing at such local hot spots as F and M Patio Bar and Vaqueros. Early Sunday morning, alumni and friends met at Audubon Park to take part in the annual Run with the Wolves 5k Run/Walk. Michael Murphy was the overall male first place winner and Cecilia Bennett, assistant director of Institute for Ministry, was the first female to cross the finish line. The reunion wrapped up in true Loyola fashion with a Mass in the Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus and a brunch in the St. Charles Room. The reunion class committees made the weekend happen, says Thomas Weatherall, director of alumni and parent relations. I attended a reunion phone calling night for the Golden Wolves and the room was filled with energyalumni callers laughing and reminiscing. Their efforts that evening paid off as the turnout for the weekend was sensational. The Adjutor Hominum award is presented annually by Loyolas Presidents Council to an outstanding alumnus of the university whose life exemplifies those characteristics which Loyola seeks to form in graduates, namely moral character, service to humanity, and unquestionable integrity. Billye is an outstanding example of the character and integrity that Loyola seeks to instill within its students, wrote Catherine Comiskey,96, assistant director of the annual fund in her nomination letter. The Adjutor Hominum is the latest in a long list of prestigious awards for Judlin. She received the Pro Ecclesia at Pontifice Medal from Pope Paul VI in recognition of service to the church and papacy. She also was named Outstanding Catholic Woman by the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. The National Catholic Education Association awarded her the Presidential Award for Outstanding Service to Catholic Education. Judlin also received the Order of St. Louis Medal for outstanding contributions to the Archdiocese of New Orleans and was a recipient of The Living and Giving Award from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Louisiana. Judlin graduated from Loyola with a bachelor of science in pharmacy in 1943. She was president of the Loyola University Alumni Association in 1988 and has served as a member since 1985. Judlin also has been a member of the Loyola College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, Loyolas Presidents Council, and the Archdiocesan Board of Religious Education. |
