November 6, 1998 Public Safety is number one, againA team from the Loyola University Police Department won first place in the two-rider Tulane Classic bike competition held at Tulane in October. The winning team consisted of Sgt. Lyle Hunter and Officer Walter Butler. A second team was comprised of Officer Robert Barnes and Student Marshall Joe Patout. This is the second first-place win for the Loyola University Police Department. The Tulane Classic is an event that tests the skills of law enforcement bike patrol officers in an urban environment, focusing on endurance, precision bike handling skills, and speed. Other participants included the Tulane University Police Department, Riverwalk Security, Oakwood Mall Security, Hilton Security, Delgado Community College Police Department, and New Orleans Police Department. Police Chief Patrick X. Bailey says he is very proud of Loyolas bike patrol officers. Their skills are reflected and highly recognized each time they compete in events such as these.
