October 23, 1998 Loyola supports United Way campaignLoyolas United Way campaign begins October 26 and runs through November 6. All faculty and staff are encouraged to contribute to the United Way for the Greater New Orleans area, which assists over 700,000 people in Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa parishes. Loyolas goal for the 1998 United Way campaign is $54,000. This goal was set by the United Way campaign steering committee comprised of representation from of all of divisions of the university. This goal equates to an average gift of $55 from each member of the Loyola community. This, if broken down according to pay periods, would be a contribution of $2.11 per pay period. Last year the goal for the campaign was $39,000 and contributions totaled over $48,000. This represented an average gift of $104 from 467 donors. Each faculty and staff member will receive a United Way pledge card from their campaign communicator. Contributions can be made through payroll deduction, credit card, check, or cash. The payroll deduction will be divided over 26 pay periods from January through December 1999. Each person contributing at least one percent of their annual salary will be eligible to win a new 1998 automobile and a chance to win $500 worth of gasoline. We were extremely pleased with last years results stated United Way co-chair Charles DiGange, associate vice president for institutional advancement, and feel that the Loyola community will once again accept the challenge of this years goal and will not only meet it but exceed it. |
