October 30, 1998 The Twice-born opens at LoyolaThe premiere of The Twice-born by award-winning playwright Ernest Ferlita, S.J., will be presented in Marquette Theater, November 6 14. The second production of Loyola University Theatre season produced by the Department of Drama and Speech will be directed by Trellis Stepter . The Twice-born, based on the Greek myth Hippolytus, is set in New Orleans in the 1820s. A tale of love, betrayal, and intrigue in the steamy South, it tells the story of a woman who falls desperately in love with her stepson. A tragicomedy, the events portrayed illustrate the rebirth of more than one of the characters. Trellis Stepter, a Loyola alumnus, is thrilled to be able to return to his alma mater as a guest director. Stepter lives and works in New York City where he settled after completing his studies at the Julliard School in 1992. Ernest Ferlita is one of our most successful directors, said Georgia Gresham, chair of the Department of Drama and Speech, and it is wonderful to present another facet of his talent to our students and to the public. Having his play directed by an accomplished graduate really strengthens the Loyola connections. The Twice-born will run November 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14 at 8 p.m. and November 8 at 3 p.m. in Marquette Theater, 6363 St. Charles Avenue. Tickets are $10 general admission and $7 for students, seniors, and faculty. Group discounts are available. For more information, contact Loyola Theatre Business Office at ext. 3824.
