October 9, 1998 Loyola Day explores the second comingLoyola University was founded upon the Jesuit traditions and continues to honor and impart these values to its students, faculty, and staff. In doing so, October 12 has been designated Loyola Day so the Loyola community may focus on their Jesuit traditions and history. The day is sponsored by the Jesuit Center. The day starts with a welcome address by University President Bernard Knoth, S.J., and includes a presentation from the Rev. Bill McNichols, S.J., who will speak about the Icons of the New Advent. McNichols is a painter and artist in residence at the West Side Jesuit Community in New York City. The morning of reflection concludes with a lunch in the St. Charles Room of the Danna Center. The topic of the presentation,Icons of the New Advent, ties in with the direction that Pope John Paul II has given the church. He has spoken continually of this New Advent in many of his writings, and he has designated the years preceding the turn of the millennium as a time of preparation and prayers culminating in celebrations in the year 2000.
