Women’s Studies honors Sister Fara, marks anniversary

Loyola Women’s Studies celebrates the 10-year anniversary of Women’s Studies and honors Sister Fara Impastato, OP on Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m. in the Audubon Room of the Danna Center. As part of the event, Sister Fara will present a lecture, “Mary: Woman of the New Age.”

Impastato has been engaged in religious education for over 35 years, including a 28-year tenure at Loyola. Her course, Women in Christian Tradition, became the precursor for the women’s studies program at Loyola. Currently, Impastato is involved in directing group and private retreats. A New Orleans native, Sr. Fara graduated from Loyola magna cum laude in 1949 with a degree in history and education. She received her doctorate in philosophy of religion, summa cum laude, from St. Mary’s School of Sacred Theology in Notre Dame, Indiana.
