May 8, 1998 Loyola students awarded prizes in two communications competitionsStudents from Loyola captured top prizes in two communications competitions recently. The Loyola Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Bateman team placed second in national competition and Loyolas Advertising team was awarded first place in 7th District Student Advertising Campaign. The Bateman team competed against 40 schools nationally to place second with the University of Florida taking first place. The team, comprised of four Loyola communications students, created a complete public relations campaign for Family Service of America in Milwaukee to promote National Family Week in 1999. The team members, lead by communications professor Cathy Rogers, are: Matt Bruns, St. Louis; Sarah Eshaghy, Chicago; Alison Panter, Covington, La.; and Angela Sumlin, New Orleans. The Bateman team has ranked nationally for the past three years. The Advertising team competed against nine other schools to win the 7th District Student Advertising Campaign in Memphis, Tenn. Hallmark, this years client, presented the students with the challenge of designing a Brand Insistence Campaign aimed at women. With guidance from communications professor Teri Kline Henley, the eight Loyola students comprising the team are: Molly Fitzgerald, Folsom, La.; Shannon Maki, Prairieville, La., Claire Mouledoux, Kingwood, Texas; Sarah Peltier, New Iberia, La.; Pamby Levert, New Orleans; Kizzy Curtis, New Orleans; Joie Babin, Harvey, La.; and Brian Chadwick, St. Louis, Mo. This is the fourth time in five years the Loyola ad team has won the district competition to progress to nationals. In 1996, the ad team placed second nationally, and in 1995, the team captured the national title. This years team will travel to Minneapolis in June to compete against 14 other district winners for the national title. |
