April 24, 1998 Chancellor of Boston College to visit campusThe Rev. J. Donald Monan, S.J., chancellor of Boston College since 1996 and its president for 24 years, has been invited to visit Loyola by the Board of Trustees to assist in their periodic review of the university and its president. Fr. Knoth has just passed the mid-point of his first five-year term as president and concurred with the decision of the executive committee that now would be a good time to review the activities of his first few years while looking forward to the exciting plans he has proposed for the future. The charter and by-laws of the board call for a periodic review of the university at least once every six years. The last evaluation took place in January 1993. The evaluation includes . . . (a) the general management of the institution with special reference to the office of the president and the chief administrative offices; (b) the educational programs, including faculties and student affairs; (c) the business affairs and physical plant and grounds management; and (d) the programs for institutional advancement. Monan has served as a trustee of Canisius College, LeMoyne College, Fordham University, and Georgetown University. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management and was a member of the Harvard Board of Overseers, Committee to Visit the Graduate School of Business Administration. Those included in the visit on April 2728 in addition to several members of the board, are the vice presidents, the academic deans, the executive committee of the university faculty senate, and the executive committee of the administrative senate. According to Rev. Lawrence W. Moore, S. J., secretary/treasurer of the Board of Trustees, at the conclusion of the visit and after a review of materials provided to him, Monan will prepare a report which will be presented to the full board of trustees for review and discussion. The visit is being coordinated by Moore, who also chaired the search committee which recommended Knoth for the presidency of Loyola in 1995. Joseph J. Mansfield, vice president for Institutional Advancement |
