Run in the Winter Classic

Register now for the 1998 Winter Classic, a 5,000 Meter Road Race held Saturday, January 10, 1998 in Audubon Park. Sponsored by Loyola Athletics , the cost is $10 before January 6 and $12 on the day of the race. Prizes will be awarded to top female and male finishers in various categories. Among the prizes are a full year family membership to Loyola's Recreational Sports Complex, and gift certificates to Ye Olde College Inn and the Hard Rock Cafe. Contact Steve Kalbaugh at ext. 2056.

Performance for a Lifetime

A Festchrift Honoring Dorothy Harrell Brown Essays on Women, Religion, and the Renaissance has been published and is available for purchase for $11.95 from the university bookstore or the Office of Publications in Greenville Hall (plus $2 shipping/handling if mailed.).

Attention: Submissions for the National Jesuit Book Awards are being accepted until March 1, 1998.

Established in 1979 by Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit Honor Society, the National Jesuit Award recognizes outstanding publishing achievement by faculty and administrators of the 28 U.S. Jesuit colleges and universities. Awards are made on a three-year category rotation: the humanities, the physical and social sciences, and professional studies. The AJCU administers the review and selection process.

Eligibility is open to all full or part-time faculty or administrator or anyone with emeritus status who has published a scholarly book during 1995, 1996, or 1997 in one of the flowing categories: architecture, business, communications, denistry, education, engineering, fine arts, foreign service, law, medicine, music, nursing, pharmacy, and social work.

Criteria for judging includes content, style, scholarship, and effectiveness of presentation.

Applications are available from the chief academic officer, the local chapter advisers of Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Office of Alpha Sigma Nu, the web page (www.mu.edu/dept/ASN), and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. All submissions must be made by the author. Books will not be returned.
