Loyola honors alumni with prestigious Adjutor Hominum award

Loyola presented the 1997-98 Adjutor Hominum award to Albert S. and Marilyn V. Dittmann during the alumni luncheon Friday, November 14, as part of the university's Homecoming activities.

The Adjutor Hominum award is presented annually by Loyola's President's Council to an outstanding alumnus of the university whose life exemplifies those characteristics which Loyola seeks to form in graduates, namely moral character, service to humanity, and unquestionable integrity. This year, two recipients were selected whose lives illustrate these high standards through their commitment to their community, university, and each other.

"The Dittmanns exemplify what a Catholic man and woman, husband and wife, father and mother should be," Mrs. Olga Rome wrote in her nomination. "They are partners, best friends, and completely supportive of one another." The Dittmanns were married in 1964 and have two sons, Todd and Scott.

The Dittmanns have worked together in various volunteer service activities for the community. Both have volunteered for the H.U.G.S. Outreach program and Boys Hope. The couple co-chaired the 1994 Loyola Alumni Scholarship Gala and Mrs. Dittmann also served as co-chair for the 1996 Gala.

Marilyn Dittmann, a 1964 Loyola graduate, has volunteered for numerous committees and organizations which seek to enhance both cultural and humanitarian causes. She currently serves as first vice president of Loyola's Alumni Association and will serve as president beginning in the fall of 1998. In 1992, Mrs. Dittmann was honored as an "Outstanding Activist" by St. Elizabeth's Guild, an organization in which she later served as president of the board of directors.

Albert S. Dittmann, Jr., received his undergraduate and juris doctor degrees from Loyola in 1963 and 1966, respectively. He is an attorney and partner with the law firm of Adams and Reese in New Orleans. In addition to his community service activities for which he received the "Volunteer Activist" award from the St. Elizabeth's Guild and the "Living and Giving" award from the Juvenile Diabetes Association, Mr. Dittmann is an active alumnus of both Loyola University and Jesuit High School. He currently serves on the Loyola School of Law Visiting Committee and is the immediate past president of the Loyola Law Alumni Association and a former president of the president's advisory council at Jesuit. He is a member of Loyola's President's Council and the 1996 recipient of the Order of St. Ignatius Award presented by the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.
