October 24, 1997 Loyola supports United Way campaignLoyola's United Way Campaign began on October 20 and runs through October 31. All faculty and staff are encouraged to contribute to the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area, which assists 400,000 people in Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa parishes. Loyola's goal for the 1997 United Way campaign is to increase faculty and staff participation to 60 percent, which is a 20-percent increase over last year. The monetary goal is $39,000, which is an 11-percent increase over last year. Loyola's Administrative Senate has set a participation goal of 100 percent for all senators. Each faculty and staff member will receive a United Way pledge card from their campaign communicator. Contributions can be made through payroll deduction, credit card, check, or cash. The payroll deduction will be divided over 26 pay periods from January through December 1998. Each person contributing at or above the community guideline level will be eligible to win a new 1997 Mazda B-Series Sports Truck and a chance to win $500 worth of gasoline. The community guideline level equals one percent of annual salary (for salary employees) or hourly wage multiplied by 12 (for hourly employees). The Student Government Association, in support of the United Way, will sponsor a pumpkin decorating contest to raise funds. On Thursday, October 30 at 12:30 p.m., everyone is encourage to stop in the Danna Center lounge to demonstrate their creative skills. Call SGA at ext. 2132 for details.
