October 3, 1997 Loyola celebrates its Jesuit heritage with Loyola Dayby Clyde LeBlanc, S.J., Interim Dean of Campus Ministry and Director of the Jesuit Center "In a privately circulated Jesuit journal some years ago, Jesuit Father Tom Clancy, S.J., no stranger to Loyola, developed a theme around a certain knack Saint Ignatius had for attracting some of his first followers: everyday conversation. This year's Loyola Day on October 13 is an invitation for us all to engage in spiritual conversation. "The day begins in Ignatius Chapel with an ecumenical service of Taize Prayer: hymns and prayer punctuated with scripture and reflection. Weather permitting, we will enjoy morning refreshments and one another's company in our new quad. "In the key address in Nunemaker Auditorium, we will hear from Thomas Landy, director of the Collegium Program of Fairfield University. Tom will present ideals about the special charisms of Saint Ignatius and how they can be of service in our work here at the university. An open panel discussion will ensue. "We plan to close the program with a video prepared by Saint Louis University. Many of us are already familiar with the first part of 'Shared Vision,' which centers on the life of Saint Ignatius Loyola. Part two of the film, which was recently released, explores the spread of the Society of Jesus and its ideals around the world. We conclude with a nice Lundi Day lunch in the St. Charles Room. Join Us." |
