October 17, 1997 Asbestos abatement updateIn accordance with requirements of the Louisiana Asbestos Abatement Act, McClelland Management Services has completed a comprehensive inspection of Loyola University to identify all asbestos containing materials. This act is similar in scope to the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), the federal law that regulates primary and secondary schools. Colleges and universities in this state are regulated by the Louisiana Asbestos Abatement Act. The Asbestos Abatement Act requires Loyola to inform all interested parties that, during the past year, we have continued to conduct semi-annual inspections of the campus in accordance with our comprehensive management plan. Small-scale abatement and repair activities have been undertaken and completed as required. The mandated three-year reinspection was successfully completed during the past year. Additionally, large scale abatement has been completed over the summer months in Miller and Monroe halls in conjunction with construction projects. A copy of the Management Plan is available for review in the Physical Plant office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Under the Management Plan, the following asbestos-related activities are planned in the coming year:
Any questions related to the asbestos management program may be directed to Robert S. Oehlke, Jr., university safety officer, at ext. 3157. |
