Division of Institutional Advancement announces staff changes

Anne Phayer Baños has been appointed executive director of development, effective September 15. In this capacity, all members of the fund-raising and related activities staffs, including the director of the annual fund, the director of research, and the capital campaign staff, will report to her. Presently the director of major gifts and donor relations, Baños has been with Loyola since 1990. She graduated from Tulane in 1993 with a master's degree in education and in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in English literature. She also is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education Management Development Program.

John Bolles who has worked on a part-time basis as web coordinator, has been appointed to that position full time. Bolles is a 1993 graduate of the University of Mississippi, with a major in political science.

Edward D'Antoni assumed a new role in the division as director of alumni relations and annual funds for the School of Law. A 1980 graduate of the law school and a member of the advancement team since 1991, D'Antoni has been a strong factor in developing research on prospective supporters of the university. His appointment will bring strength to a new effort in the law school, designed to engage law alumni in the life of the law school.

Helen Ellis was hired as special events coordinator effective September 8. In the newly-created position, Ellis is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing various university events, including university and law commencement, donor recognition events, and special events for the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations. Currently, she is enrolled in the master of arts program in mass communications at Loyola. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Louisville.

Michael Ferguson has been appointed to the new post of advancement writer. This position will focus on grants writing in support of the capital campaign effort and writing articles related to fund-raising and the capital campaign. Ferguson graduated from Dartmouth College in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and anthropology.

Another Loyola alumus, John Hagan, A'96, joined the division as the assistant director of alumni and parent relations. His enthusiasm and energy is a welcome addition to this position which involves developing volunteers and friends for the university.

Maria Magolske was promoted to the newly-established position of coordinator of stewardship and donor relations. Formerly, Magolske's duties were split between annual fund and donor relations/stewardship. In her new position, she will focus solely on stewardship and donor relations. A 1993 graduate of Loyola, Magolske has worked in the division since 1994.

Dori Orr, who was a member of the alumni office staff for two years, has been promoted to annual fund project coordinator. Orr is a 1994 graduate of UNO with a bachelor's degree in business management and in December she will receive her MBA from Loyola.

Judy Tillis is the new development assistant for the College of Arts and Sciences, City College, and the College of Music. She will work with Kenneth St. Charles, senior development officer, for those colleges. Tillis transferred from the School of Law and has been at Loyola since 1992. She has a master's degree in public policy from Mississippi State University and a bachelor of arts degree in political science/business administration from Xavier University.

Terry A. Utterback is the new director of the annual fund. Utterback is a 1980 graduate of Loyola with a major in communications and a minor in business. Most recently, he has served as director of campaigns and community programs with Touro Infirmary Foundation. Prior to that time, his career has been in public television, fund-raising at stations in Baton Rouge, Oklahoma, and with WYES-TV for over eight years.
