Chautauqua Society sponsors lectureship

During the fall semester, Rabbi Robert H. Loewy of Congregation Gates of Prayer in Metairie will teach a course at Loyola titled "Judaism." The course is one of 150 which will be sponsored this year across the United States by the Jewish Chautauqua Society (JCS).

Loewy has been an active member of the New Orleans community, most notably as past president of the Greater New Orleans Rabbinic Council and past chair of the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans. He also participates in the regional institutions and organizations of Reform Judaism and is president of the Southwest Association of Reform Rabbis. Loewy is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR) Reform Jewish Practice Committee, the CCAR Executive Board, and is on the national board of ARZA, the Association of Reform Zionists of America.

Founded in 1893, the JCS is the educational arm of the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods (NFTB). The NFTB uses social action, youth activities, and various programs to help enhance its ideal of brotherhood throughout North America. v
