Massingill named dean of admissions and enrollment management

Loyola Provost David C. Danahar recently named Nan Massingill dean of admissions and enrollment management. As dean, Massingill will have major responsibility for the oversight of the university's recruitment, scholarships, and financial aid operations. The appointment was effective April 11, 1997.

In making the announcement, Danahar said, "As dean, Ms. Massingill will add to her responsibilities direct oversight for the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. She will continue to work closely with the deans in the marketing, recruitment and retention efforts of the university. Likewise she will have responsibility for the coordination of admissions and financial aid initiatives. I look forward to her activities and successes."

Massingill has served as Loyola's director of admissions since 1988. During her tenure, she has made significant upgrades and improvements in the admissions and recruitment operations. In the last year alone, Massingill and her staff have implemented a telecounseling program for the recruitment of prospective students and expanded the spring and fall travel schedules of admission counselors in order to meet with over 16,000 prospective students at college fairs and high schools across the country.

In addition, Massingill organized the university's first President's Open House which was held in early April with over 700 students and parents in attendance and involved over 230 members of the Loyola community.

In 1994, Massingill was presented the university's Coadjutor Optimus Award for the professionalism, enthusiasm, dedication, and effectiveness she exhibits in her career.

Prior to joining Loyola, Massingill worked in the admissions office at Trinity University in San Antonio as assistant director and later as associate director of admissions.

Massingill earned a bachelor of science degree in education of the hearing impaired and a master of education degree in counseling and guidance from Trinity University. She is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and has held numerous leadership roles within its state and regional associations. Currently, she is the local arrangements chair for the 1998 Annual Conference for the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling and begins her 10th year as a member of the resident faculty for Rice University / Texas Association for College Admission Counseling Workshop on College Admissions.
