May 9, 1997 Faculty/Staff FootnotesBecause the next monthly issue of Campus News will not be published until next semester, we will print the most recent faculty/staff footnotes received by the Office of Public Affairs. Evangeline Abriel, clinical professor of law, spoke at Rutgers law school at a conference titled, "Immigration Reform: Redefining Who Belongs." Abriel's presentation concerned changes in the treatment of undocumented aliens under U.S. law between 1986 and 1996. In April, Abriel was qualified by the Criminal District Court for Orleans Parish as an expert in Spanish language and testified before the tribunal concerning the accuracy of a translation of a document. Abriel also was included in the "Best Lawyers in America" list for 1997-98, under the Immigration Law category. The notice appeared in the New Orleans Bar Association's publication Briefly Speaking in April. Dean of City College Marcel Dumestre's book, A Church at Risk, was published by The Crossroad/Herder Publishing Company. Sherrie Gammage, Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP) Coordinator, was awarded the Outstanding Master's Graduate in Counseling from the Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Foundations. She received her award in an honor's convocation held on UNO's campus April 30. James Klebba, Victor Schiro Professor of Law, will become associate dean for academic affairs of the law school, effective August 21. A professor for nearly 24 years, Klebba is an expert in civil procedure, evidence, and federal courts. Rosary O'Neill, professor of drama and speech, received an invitation to have her play and Southern Rep production, A Louisiana Gentleman, performed at the International Festival of Louisiana in Lafayette, the largest French festival in America. |
